Cincinnati Preservation’s Neighborhoods Initiative recently launched in Madisonville! On November 20th, Cincinnati Preservation’s Beth Johnson and Raina Regan attended Madisonville’s Common Council meeting to introduce the initiative to Madisonville residents and provided an overview of historic preservation designation tools. In preparation for the meeting, Cincinnati Preservation developed a map of those historic places that have already been identified, which is available to the public.
During the initial meeting, residents shared stories about important historic places. As a next step, Cincinnati Preservation is looking to gather places and stories about Madisonville. As part of the Neighborhoods Initiative, Cincinnati Preservation will look to conduct a workshop in 2026 with the neighborhood residents to determine which places should be preserved and appropriate designation strategies for those places.
Cincinnati Preservation’s Neighborhoods Initiative creates an avenue for communities to be proactive in protecting their historic resources. In collaboration with residents, businesses, councils and vested partners, Cincinnati Preservation will guide neighborhoods to shape the future of their own community from the ground up. Cincinnati Preservation will:
- Educate each neighborhood on their previously documented historic resources
- Help neighborhoods identify and document any additional historic resources they deem most important
- Offer training and workshops on the designation and nomination applications required to protect their community assets
- Empower neighborhoods to actively save the sites they value the most
In 2025, Cincinnati Preservation’s Neighborhoods Initiative conducted initial outreach in Avondale, Clifton, Boone County (KY), Madisonville, and North Avondale. Stay tuned for more information about Cincinnati Preservation’s Neighborhoods Initiative in 2026, including additional neighborhoods participating in the program.
