Hike the Miami Fort Trail

Come learn about where CPA got its start!

Join CPA on this special 60th Anniversary Hike at Shawnee Lookout Park along the Miami Fort trail to view the earthworks, built by the Adena and Hopewell cultures nearly 3,000 years ago. Advocating to save these earthworks was the impetus that started Cincinnati Preservation Association (originally called Miami Purchase Association) in 1964.

 

The hike will be led by Great Parks of Hamilton County who will teach participants about the earthworks and the work that has been done to preserve this site and park for generations to come.

Come tour the John Hauck House in the Dayton St Historical District. Enter a coloring contest, see the restoration work on a guided tour and experience how preservation creates community.

 

The Ohio History Connection created Ohio Open Doors in 2016 to promote and inspire pride in Ohio’s heritage and to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the National Historic Preservation Act. Signed by President Lyndon B. Johnson on Oct. 15, 1966, the Act has proven instrumental in transforming the face of communities from coast to coast, establishing the legal framework and incentives to preserve historic buildings, landscapes and archaeological sites.

Every fall, CPA hosts a nationally renowned speaker who gives a lecture on a topic of local interest. The Fall Forum has historically taken place in the Netherland Plaza’s Hall of Mirrors, one of the grandest ballrooms in the Midwest.

Docomomo Tour Day

The only national event of its kind, Tour Day is an annual celebration of modern architecture and design where the public and like-minded organizations across the country participate in a tour or event.

 

CPA partners with cf3 for this event in a new location each year.
