Corporate Member Spotlight: New Republic Architecture

As long time corporate members and sponsors of Cincinnati Preservation, New Republic Architecture believes in our mission and are proud to support it. It’s because our mission aligns with their passion for unique historic architecture, local cultural heritage and a civic responsibility to our community that they continue to stay connected with Cincinnati Preservation year round.

Perseverance on Vine

Experts in Residential Design
New Republic Architecture is a Cincinnati-based residential architecture and design firm specializing in historic rehabilitation, mixed-use, market-rate and affordable multi-family housing and developer-led single-family projects. Their mission is to enrich their communities through the conscientious design of spaces for people to live, grow and thrive.

“Cincinnati has 26 historic districts, including Over-the-Rhine, Northside and Walnut Hills. Revitalizing our urban environment and giving new life to under-utilized properties are two of the founding principles of New Republic. Although we have been known to “geek out” over historic detail and character, we strive to design for modern living and working while respecting the historic fabric of a building. We are passionate about preserving the character of our unique historic districts for generations to come.”

Some of their most notable projects include:

  • The Flatiron Building, which anchors a revitalization of the intersection of Auburn Ave, Dorchester and Sycamore in Mt. Auburn.
  • Perseverance on Vine, which revitalized an entire city block in OTR
  • The Reakirt Building, which we facilitated getting listed on the National Register of Historic Places
  • The Paramount Building, the rehabilitation and adaptation of an iconic early 20th century art deco building anchoring the intersection of McMillan and Gilbert Avenues in Walnut Hills.
  • Moore Knight house, preserving and updating a historic local landmark and part of African American history for a family “forever home”

Outlasting temporary design trends
Historic Tax Credits (HTC) are essential components in financing the revitalization of historic neighborhoods and help make their clients’ projects financially feasible. With a decade of experience in Historic Tax Credit funded architecture (in addition to two decades of tenured experience), New Republic has established a track record as a go-to firm for Historic Rehabilitation, adaptive re-use and mixed-use projects.

New Republic keeps all preservation consulting in-house. As architects and preservation consultants, they eliminate the extra communication between the architect, preservation consultant and the State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO). Their long-standing working relationships with SHPO reviewers enable the company to anticipate solutions for expected and unexpected challenges, and because they write their own applications, the design concepts and application narratives are aligned and fully integrated.

Having fun taking architecture seriously
Our culture is defined by our Core Values: we are passionate, collaborative, supportive, and we are always learning. Whether it’s getting the team together to cheer on our rider at Dangerwheel each summer, hosting an eclipse party for the staff, exploring Blink together, reconnecting with our design inspirations at our annual company retreat, finding unique local spaces to hold our holiday party, coming together for our annual team service project, educational job site tours or happy hours at local establishments, we find ways to have fun together while learning together and collaborating with each other and supporting our community.”
